Democratic Primaries

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D) said Tuesday he will join the already-crowded race for the White House with an overt appeal to voters who are most desperate to kick President Trump out of office.
In a video posted online Tuesday morning, Bullock painted himself as the most electable candidate in the field, and the only one who had won statewide office three times at the same time Republican presidential nominees carried his state.
"As a Democratic governor of a state Trump won by 20 points, I don't have the luxury of just talking to people who agree with me," Bullock said in the video. "We need to defeat Donald Trump in 2020, and defeat the corrupt system that lets campaign money drown out the people's voice."
Bullock will cast himself as the Democrat who can reconnect the party with rural voters who have fled to the Republican Party in recent years, and as a champion for campaign finance reform.

(87,012 posts)He should be running for the Senate seat which that asswipe, Steve Daines, holds currently. I'm kind of pissed at him about it.

(87,012 posts)We have some guy from Missoula running for the Senate seat so far. I heard an interview on MTPR with Bullock, it was a good argument for running. He seems to think there will be several contenders for the Senate seat. He said he's not interested in being Senator.
To his credit, he is terming out as gov. in a reportedly solid red state, was previously AG, and has a pretty good track record from a Democratic perspective while dealing with a very red legislature.

(112,755 posts)With all of the early announcements this year, it is going to be difficult for him to get the donations or recognition that some of the previously announced candidates did. I hope that he qualifies for the debates so that he can present his vision if elected.

(87,012 posts)winning votes from both parties. That's an important factor. And they do get things accomplished. Bullock fought and got us expanded medicaid, it took three years after the ACA became law, he has been fighting dark money in elections, we still have paper ballots, I think all over the state...
And he manages to run things on an insufficient amounts of funds... not that this country isn't swimming in wealth, it just isn't in the hands of those who would put it to its best use.
