Democratic Primaries

Its reset season in the presidential primary campaign.
For months, top-tier Democrats largely adhered to their pre-laid plans, ignoring the noise around them. They dismissed early polls as folly and labored to avoid making campaign calculations based on a still-emerging and fluid field of competitors.
But as the primary landscape has settled, a crop of candidates who arent seeing the trajectory they envisioned, or find themselves in danger of falling back in public opinion polls, are beginning to recalibrate.
It was less than a month ago that ORourke, asked about his relatively light footprint on TV, said at a campaign event that meeting voters eyeball to eyeball, to me, is so much more satisfying than being on cable TV and in a soundbite.

(146,358 posts)There are the leaders, and there's the pack. That's what happens in such a large field of candidates.
It's hard for a flashlight to get noticed when there are floodlights on the scene.
However, on a positive note, winnowing does separate the grain from the chaff.

(12,165 posts)I hope that the field gets consolidated and does so quickly. I think it will, but California is a wildcard and it's 495 (I think?) pledged delegates will be game changers. Biden is leading (again, I think) among democrats in California for the primary, but Harris will give him a run for his money.
The reason I am saying "I think" above is that I can't find good references for the polls and numbers, but have read articles that say this. I did a quick Google search for sources, but didn't want to winnow through a bunch of sites. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

(10,854 posts)The entire dynamic changed once Joe Biden officially entered. He was at the top of the pack even before the official announcement. Which is why certain campaigns were desperate to dissuade Biden from jumping in.
The force of gravity that Biden has exerted is massive. And though a lot of DU'ers (and elsewhere) hate the 'electability factor,' that sense of the world as we know it, the danger we're facing as a Nation is pushing the idea of nominating someone who can take Trump to the cleaners and then repair the damage done, domestically and abroad.
It will take a seasoned hand to repair relationships with our allies. Joe Biden is the only candidate with foreign policy chops.
It will take someone with integrity and proven skill set to get anything done. Joe Biden brings a lifetime of experience navigating the ups and downs in Congress and through the halls of the WH.
It will take someone who is trusted to do the arduous work of putting the country back together, resetting our course after the Trumpster's disastrous reign. Biden is trusted and well-liked by a large swath of the electorate.
Everything changed when Biden announced because voters were waiting for the right person to step forward. We have a lot of really good candidates but only one tailored-made for this moment in history: Joe Biden
