(42,862 posts)What's a "corporate bundler"? I've never heard of this before. Is it a thing? How does it work? Who's doing it? And what's objectionable about it?

(18,361 posts)A good analogy would be the PTA parent who organizes and collects donations from other parents for an end-of-the-year gift for a teacher.
You can get some ball-park information about possible instances of bundling (including corporate bundling) from the Industries and Sectors tabs at Open Secrets. Here's an example:

(3,855 posts)Where the money comes from matters. That's it's coming from individual citizens making small donations rather than bundlers matters.
Maybe I am just misunderstanding but I seriously don't get that people on DU of all places seem to be against small donations by regular citizens. I have heard this sort of thing on other threads and I don't' get it.

(25,687 posts)Wut? I think if people have evidence of bribes and corruption, they should tell us so we don't vote for those people. How do candidates know where the money specifically comes from with bundlers so they can be corrupted? I don't get it.
In my opinion, making regular citizens pay for elections is a sort of tax. Terrible. Get money from rich people. They're asked for money all the time.

(67,782 posts)A person in Michigan makes 11 contributions of $3 a DAY for almost three months (more than 800 total). Aggregate: $2800.
A person makes a single one-time contribution of $2800. Aggregate: $2800.
So the first is "grassroots" and hundreds of "small donations" averaging $3 - good. The second is a "big money donation" - bad.
Even though the net result is the same - $2800 to the candidate!

(42,862 posts)... his or her donation to Booker is falsely characterized as being a "money from BIG PHARMA"
Same thing for the low-skilled mailroom clerk at Exxon... by virtue of where he's employed, his donation to Biden is falsely characterized a coming from "BIG OIL".
Such tactics are dishonest and manipulative. It often follows a candidate's "pledge to not accept money from corporations". Which is also a disingenuous statement because with that candidate's "pledge" is the implicit suggestion that other candidates DO accept corporate donations... but it's never mentioned that such things are illegal anyway.
So basically, you have a candidate who's pledging to abide by the law... yet (without proof) implying that other candidates regularly and routinely (and without consequence) disobey that same law.
Pathetic. That's a strategy for losers and weak candidates (no matter who he or she may be, and no matter the party). And I'll just leave it at that and say no more, for obvious reasons.

(42,862 posts)Deceptive video "thumbnail" image from a different event. Jane isn't there at all. It's not an "arena" event as shown in the snapshot thumbnail (title card) image.
Actually, it looks like a banquet room at the local Holiday Inn. And then... Bernie doesn't show up until over an hour after the video starts. He says nothing new... just the same old stump speech. In my opinion, it was nothing different. A disappointment to watch.
I guess the "best" part was his amusing attempts at "dancing" and clapping to the beat... it's obvious that he's a bit self-conscious of what he's doing and he's not really sure what "move" he wants to do next. Clap? Headbob? Finger snap? Fist bop? A combination?
All I'm trying to say is.... as a general rule of thumb, candidates should never be photographed eating corndogs at a county fair... they should never give interviews when animals are being slaughtered in the background... and should never try to look youthful or energetic by dancing on stage. It doesn't work.
