Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBERN NOTICE: Bernie vs Biden On Having a GOP Runningmate
Bernie 2020Bern Notice is a production of the Bernie 2020 campaign.
During the holiday week Joe Biden told an audience that if he wins the Democratic primary, he is open to putting a Republican on the ticket. At an Iowa press conference yesterday, Bernie drew a contrast, declaring that if he wins the Democratic nomination, he will not have a Republican as vice president.
Bidens comments are only the latest in a series of declarations in which Biden has touted and boosted Republicans:
Those comments underscore how Biden has repeatedly broken with Democrats and helped Republicans in the Senate. Biden undermined congressional Democratic opposition and voted with Republicans for the Iraq War, welfare cuts, mass incarceration, financial deregulation, the bankruptcy bill and corporate-written trade deals. By contrast, Bernie led the fight against those policies.

(40 posts)I'm for Bernie but my second choice is Joe, so you can see this stuff is upsetting. Since I like them both, I have been watching both campaigns. Joe Biden's campaign is about Trump and uniting everyone.
All this is going to do is amplify all the times Bernie has tried to court Trump supporters.

(25,687 posts)Awkward when saying "Bernie led the fight against those policies."
Bernie: "It is my firm belief that, clearly, there are people in our society who are horribly violent, who are deeply sick and sociopathic and clearly these people must be put behind bars in order to protect society from them."

(11,996 posts)But it is also my view that through the neglect of our government and through a grossly irrational set of priorities, we are dooming today tens of millions of young people to a future of bitterness, misery, hopelessness, drugs, crime, and violence. And, Mr. Speaker, all the jails in the world and we already imprison more people per capita than any other country and all of the executions in the world will not make that situation right.
We can either educate or electrocute. We can create meaningful jobs, rebuilding our society, or we can build more jails. Mr. Speaker, let us create a society of hope and compassion, not one of hate and vengeance.
It is the common rhetorical device of starting a rebuttal by conceding some amount of truth to the position of your opponent before explaining why you feel he is wrong. It is disingenuous to quote only his preamble agreement without showing that he goes on to emphasize the opposite position.

(5,969 posts)Someone who voted for Stein and railed against Clinton talks about breaking with the Democrats. He can seriously write that and discuss his garbage with all the other Stein voters and Clinton haters employed by the Bernie campaign.
And as for policies, Bernie did break with the Democrats often enough, for example, on gun issues and Russia sanctions.

(7,702 posts)...is a rookie mistake at best. We need to elect Bernie to draw a sharper and proper distinction between our parties.
As my Mom used to say, "faint heart never won over a fair lady."
And if any Dem has been paying a bit of attention in the last 40 years, it should be obvious that we need MORE DEMS in offices, NOT A REPUB!

(94,792 posts)Exeter, New Hampshire (CNN)Joe Biden told voters in New Hampshire on Monday that he would consider choosing a Republican as a running mate, but added, "I can't think of one right now."
Biden discussed the possibility after a woman told the former vice president that if he is the nominee, he will "have to pull out all the stops."
"Our 21-year-old son said the other night, 'I wonder if Joe Biden would consider choosing a Republican as a running mate," the woman added.
"The answer is I would, but I can't think of one now," Biden replied. "Let me explain that. You know there's some really decent Republicans that are out there still, but here's the problem right now ... they've got to step up."

It makes it very hard to accept Bernie and his supporters as trustworthy.
NO ONE believes Biden will select a repug but many fear Sanders may select one of his Democratic-hating, Jill Stein supporting acolytes.
