worst of the facilities where toddlers are being held in their own filth with no blankets, no beds, no soap, no showers. I want all the candidates, with no exceptions to demand the doors be opened. I want them to demand a tour.
I would like the candidates to show up with people from the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF. I want the candidates to personally render aid to the children- on camera. At the very least, I want it on camera when officials refuse entry to a federal facility to senators, Congress people, governors and the national press. I want to see the guards showing their guns to block them.
I want this planned carefully. I want it publicized before, during and after. I want Fox News shamed into being there, then I want Fox News shamed into showing it. I want the candidates to agree to stand together, unified, and prepared to stay for hours. I want them to only grant interviews in teams and I want them to keep on topic. I want no self-promoting words from anyone. I want their actions to speak.
I want the DNC to set up everything necessary for a rally- refreshments, stands, shelter- and make sure this event is open to the public and well publicized beforehand. I want to see everyone unified in naming this part of the U.S.As new concentration camp system. No equivocating. I dont want any more lip service to outrage- I want us to see the outrage in such a way that anyone who is turning a blind eye to the outrage can no longer deny its existence. The logistics for this would be hard but you cannot convince me it cannot be done, if there really is a will to save these children, there is a way.
Would that be blatantly using children for political props? Maybe, but it would definitely be an
attempt to rescue children who are already being used as political props.
I want someone to do something for those babies. Now.

The author put this in his high school class notes. I think his idea is outstanding and would really help. DUers who have a way to be heard by the primary candidates, please share this with them.
I left everything just as he wrote it.
Here is something that can be done to help, finally. Rather than letting the primaries divide us, be in unity and solidarity.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(9,151 posts)about which Democrat voted for or against war on Iraq and which Democrat is supposedly doomed with a healthcare plan for all. While Trump burns the world to the ground, we are still looking inwards.

In Canada, and I suspect for most democracies it's similar, it runs for about 6 weeks.

(14,599 posts)the party of Trump will be long and painful.
We have to keep our chins up, though. Because it is before us. Let's just hope Trump is soundly defeated. Because if he gets another term we are well and truly fucked.

(14,599 posts)a post I did this morning on this topic.
I LOVE this idea and will begin promoting it. Not that I have much say with the candidates, but if enough of us contact those we support maybe they will do.
Here's my post from earlier today: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100212830156
Let's hope that we can bring about a 2020 that is happier than 2019 was.

I hadnt thought of Tom Perez. Good idea.
I wonder if I have to find a political person to route it through for him to get it?
The author of the letter, John Poppy, sounds like hes got a really good head on his shoulders so he may have already done so for all I know.

(4,444 posts)1. Most of the kids are in private, corporation contractor care facilities. (The $750 a night kiddie care, remember?)
Government officials dont have contractural rights to trespass into those private Corp facilities without a Court Order. Trump is stuffing the courts. Good luck with that.
2. Both federal holding cell regulations , federal laws and state laws prevent disclosing identities or Filming of children without parental consent. No parent available to give consent, no filming permitted.
3. Showing up at a particular location will simply provide those operating it a chance to move a lot of kids elsewhere, and create a faked Potemkin-type heavenly haven to show the press, IF they ever are allowed in.

(561 posts)And right that's exactly what we are doing...nothing, and it's sad and it's depressing. I notice even with Trump supporters they don't like this being brought up, and they don't like it, because even they know it's wrong. The most awful fact besides where these children are being held, is that it's highly unlikely they will even be reunited with their parents. The trauma these children have suffered, and will be suffering, was unnecessary and just plain cruel. Yet it goes ignored....why? This would be a good thing for our candidates to unify behind. I think the next time I'm asked for money by one of our candidates, which is very often, I will ask what you have suggested and see what their response is. I will try and get a response from the DNC. I will also contact my representatives. Thank you!

(561 posts)I so appreciate you sharing John Poppy's notes, it's important that people speak out, and not let these children be forgotten. I don't know if you saw this, but during the summer of 2019, Trump was making a very big deal about a rapper, ASAP Rocky, being in jail in Sweden, and how he would do his best to get him released. Justin Bieber responded with a tweet: ""I want my friend out.. I appreciate you trying to help him," Bieber wrote in a tweet. "But while your (sic) at it @realDonaldTrump can you also let those kids out of cages?"
I really thought maybe this would bring the situation to the forefront, maybe other singers, or actors, or our Democratic representatives, and even the Media would give it more attention, but nothing happened. The story just died. Big disappointment.
I don't what if anything, will be able to help these children, but if you hear of anything, please let me know.
Thanks, again!

(2,412 posts)I was waiting over the Christmas holidays for Democrats to use the occasion to highlight this egregious human rights violations. As tots around the US were opening their gifts around the Christmas tree, these little prisoners were being traumatized!! This press conference needs to happen NOW!!!! As a retired Migrant Teacher, it breaks my heart to see my students and their siblings in cages without their parents!
