Breaking via NYT: Julian Castro ends bid for presidency

Breaking via NYT: Julián Castro, the former housing secretary who was the only Latino candidate in the Democratic primary, said Thursday he would end his bid for the presidency.

ETA his video of his announcement:

It’s with profound gratitude to all of our supporters that I suspend my campaign for president today.

I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together. I’m going to keep fighting for an America where everyone counts—I hope you’ll join me in that fight.

Thank you for your voice, Julian!

Bloomberg was a Bush/Cheney supporter. Gabbard is a congresswoman who didn't even vote to impeach Trump. Steyer, on the other hand, worked for Walter Mondale in 1984. And he ran many ads calling for Trump's impeachment.

If you want to call for the departure of candidates like Michael Bennet, John Delaney and Marianne Williamson, and throw Steyer in with them, then fine. But don't insult the man by comparing him to people like Gabbard or Bloomberg. That just isn't fair.

My mom loves him. She became very active in the Latino community when he started his campaign. Now she has to figure out how to redirect it. He is amazing with a bright future. The media is definitely doing their best to whiten the candidates.

can beat Trump in the general IMHO. I don't get folks (not saying you) who seem to think the primary is the most important thing...it is not. Unless we show Trump the door in 20...the primary is a failure on our part...and of course a huge disaster for everyone. I don't want an extended primary that takes hits at those could win the general...already we see divisiveness and out an out lies from Sirota and others ...the sooner this is over the better. I hope we know on super Tuesday or shortly there after.

particularly on immigration and I will miss him on the debate stage. He added something to the race.

Please don't lecture me - or anyone else - about your reason for a primary. You don't speak for me or anyone but yourself. The rest of your response to my simple statement is like a mosquito buzzing in my ear - meaningless but easy to swat away.

of a primary. I will be delighted when it is over and we have a nominee and hope that this all important primary hasn't damaged our eventual nominee sufficiently for Trump to win. Getting Trump out of office is what matters to me...I would happily vote for any candidate to accomplish this. I am not sorry to see Castro go...he seems like a good person but he was not a great candidate and some of the stuff he championed would hurt us in the general.

Its better to start narrowing the field. Its not like he is done with politics - he is just ending his bid for President.

Since when is attacking other Democrats off limits in the primary?

Was Biden "behaving badly" when he attacked Warren for having an "elitist attitude?"

It's not that you can't criticize other candidates, but you shouldn't be obnoxious about it. For example, Klobuchar going after Buttigieg at the last debate was totally fair because she wasn't snarky -- it was a reasoned critique.

I do like him, especially his animal rights platform, the only candidate who had one.
