At 72, McCain would have been the oldest president if elected, and there were issues related to his past treatment for melanoma and his experience as a prisoner of war. McCain dealt with the concerns with his characteristic candor. The Arizona senator made 1,173 pages of his medical records available to the media, setting a standard for accessibility and transparency.
We cant help but be reminded of and long for McCain and his recognition of the peoples right to know in light of the dismissive way Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a top contender to be the Democratic presidential nominee, has sought to deal with questions about his health. At 78, Mr. Sanders, too, would be the oldest president if elected, and in October he suffered a heart attack. He was briefly off the campaign trail but returned with vigor and a promise to release his medical records.
Of course, were of course, people do have a right to know about the health of a senator and someone running for president of the United States, full disclosure, Mr. Sanders told CNNs Sanjay Gupta. And, we will make at the appropriate time, all of our medical records public for you or anybody else who wants to see them. Mr. Sanders this week released some information letters from three doctors attesting to his fitness for office but it fell far short of his promise of full disclosure. When pressed by reporters if more information would be released, he said, Probably not.

(67,782 posts)The "appropriate time" is probably planned for July 17, at which time, since he won't be the nominee, he'll announce "I don't have to release them, I'm no longer a candidate."

All you need now is consistent staffing problems, and voila-- the entire campaign in a nutshell.

(45,120 posts)releasing a doctors summary that included no results from any stress tests regarding the irregularly irregular rhythm of his heart, probably from his AFib? His doctor mentioned that is passing. I find it odd that the same people putting Bernie down for breaking his promise to release his medical records and his doctors releasing summaries, which included the results of his stress test on his heart, are fine with Biden breaking his promise to released his medical records. There's a word for that. I'm sure it will come to me later.

(2,061 posts)I do get what you mentions as it being part of an issue with integrity. That makes sense.
I thought it was about what is in the medical records. We know that he recently fainted in the shower requiring multiple stitches, had a heart attack, and is 78 years old. If knowing that information hasn't made someone back away from him nothing will.

"Some conservatives are hard at work spreading conspiracy theories about Hillary Clintons health in an attempt to disqualify her from seeking higher office. Video footage of the Democratic nominee stumbling as she abruptly departed a 9/11 memorial on Sunday, combined with news that she had contracted pneumonia, has fueled rumors on the right that Clinton may be concealing a far worse medical condition. But its not just conservatives indulging in wild speculation. At least some die-hard supporters of Bernie Sanders are echoing, and in some cases amplifying, unproven claims that Clinton may be covering up serious health problems.
For a contingent of Sanders supporters who remain convinced the primary was rigged and distrust the media and the Democratic establishment, it isnt much of a leap to believe Clinton has been dishonest about her health. Some have even raised the possibility that shes gone to great lengths to conceal the truth: In a video posted to Facebook on Monday that has been viewed 11,000 times, Sanders supporter Adryenn Ashley suggests that Clinton may have used a body double after leaving the memorial to conceal health problems. I think shes way, way, way sicker than just pneumonia, Ashley says in the video.
Speculation that Clinton has employed a body double to hide illness has spread on right-wing websites in the aftermath of her swift departure from the ceremony last weekend. The Clinton campaign dismissed the idea as an absurd conspiracy theory, but that wont put an end to the rumoror others like itfor anyone inclined to believe. There is something the campaign is hiding, Ashley, who identified herself as a progressive, told me in an e-mail. They want to call any question of her health a conspiracy theory. Its not a theory, its a fact.
Such conspiracy theories are far more likely to originate inand be spread byconservative media and far-right corners of the Internet than in the Sanders crowd. High-profile Republicans have engaged in aggressive speculation about Clintons health in a way that has no equivalent on the political left. Republican nominee Donald Trump has implied that Clinton is not physically fit to serve as commander in chief. At an Ohio rally Wednesday night, he posed this question to the crowd: I dont know folks, do you think Hillary Clinton would be able to stand up here for an hour? I dont know. Television personality Sean Hannity has used his platform on Fox News to provide airtime to speculation over Clinton health problems.
Still, the tendency to raise vague questionsas well as make specific claims without concrete evidenceabout Clintons health clearly exists across the political spectrum. Some disappointed Sanders supporters appear to be promoting full-fledged, unproven narratives about Clintons health, while others seem willing to believe a cover-up might exist, even if they dont go so far as to articulate what Clinton might be covering up."

And then Sanders released his taxes and nothing more was said because there was nothing there.
I admit I might have paid more attention the first few times you guys predicted Sanders was imminently going to drop out because of some revelation. But when these predictions keep not panning out it's getting hard to take it seriously anymore.
