Related: About this forumBERN NOTICE: Biden Is Trying To Erase His Iraq War Record
Sanders 2020Bern Notice is a production of the Bernie 2020 campaign.
This is not the first time Biden has tried to erase his Iraq War actions from Americas memory. His record shows that he did not just vote for the Iraq War resolution as Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Biden led the fight for the resolution, helped kill Democratic amendments to limit the resolution, and then bragged about his war support long after the war started:
BIDEN BRAGGED ABOUT HIS SUPPORT AFTER THE IRAQ WAR BEGAN: Biden this week claimed that he opposed the Iraq War"from the very moment" it started. And yet, in a speech at the Brookings Institute in July 2003, Biden declared: "Nine months ago, I voted with my colleagues to give the president of the United States of America the authority to use force, and I would vote that way again today. It was a right vote then, and it'll be a correct vote today.
BIDEN HELPED THE GOP KILL DEMOCRATIC AMENDMENTS: Biden led the fight to help Republicans defeat a Democratic amendment to limit the scope of the Iraq War resolution, to make clear that it did not grant a president authority to launch any war not directly related to a clear threat of imminent, sudden, and direct attack upon the United States. Biden led the fight to help the GOP defeat a Democratic amendment to require the president to use appropriate diplomatic and other peaceful means to obtain compliance by Iraq with a resolution of the United Nations Security Council before launching a war in Iraq. And Biden helped the GOP kill a Democratic amendment to limit the presidents authority to launch a preemptive war in Iraq, only if Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States.
By contrast, Bernie said from the beginning:"I am opposed to giving the President a blank check to launch a unilateral invasion and occupation of Iraq. And Bernie today is pointing to the lessons of Iraq to make the case against a war in Iran:

...now THAT makes me nervous...
...today, with the war drums beating louder and louder in the Middle East, that also makes me worry...
...yet, I find it strange how Bernie seems to calm me...

(16,883 posts)Congrats...plenty of people were "right" as well. That's not going to undo a damn thing that we're facing right now. Tell us what you plan to do..and no "we must prevent a war" isn't enough. We need details. Desperately.

(24,123 posts)there's a whole lotta confidence in YOUR candidate!! I mean, why are Biden supporters bothering to take SO MUCH time and effort to bash Bernie, which only serves to create unnecessary divisiveness, if the poor guy has no chance of being the Democratic nominee. Hmmmm.... it does make one wonder.

(16,883 posts)It would be nice if folks could drop the candidate attacks and address this like adults. What are the proposals for how to deal with the situation we have TODAY?? Saying "we're going to do what we can to avoid war" isn't enough.

(280 posts)It smells like so much desperation to me. It's like, "oh wait, us Bernie supporters feel like we're losing, so let's harp on the Iraq War once again! Maybe that will show 'em!"
Good grief.

(92,454 posts)Bernie explain why David Sirota, who slurred the Democratic nominee in the general election is part of your campaign?
Bernie, explain why you wont release your complete medical records? Biden did
Why did you hire people who refused to vote for the Democratic nominee?
