(68,735 posts)July 13th...we have less than four months...and the GOP convention will be in the spotlight on August 24th...and for a couple weeks after it ends...which means September. This is nuts as Trump will be hard to beat and we need to begin this process as soon as possible...so if we wait until the convention, I fear we lose the general. My hope is we have a nominee on super Tuesday and we turn our attention to the general. If we have candidates who refuse to give up until July, we are truly fucked. A primary is to choose a nominee who can win a general period.

(31,261 posts)or which sound most realistic. That is what primaries are for. Historically the composite body of primary voter have shown a good tendency of selecting the person most capable of winning the Fall campaign. I am not worried that we won't select the strongest person.

(68,735 posts)so maybe we should rethink our primary behavior and particularly our after the primary behavior...IE vote blue no matter who and that has not always happened in our party which is very sad. I will vote for whoever is polling the best in the states we need to deny Trump and EC win...I believe that will be Biden...but whoever it is has my vote. I will then work my ass off and vote for whoever wins the nomination period.

(68,735 posts)I vote in every election...local, state ,mid terms, presidential...No GOP is worth electing even if your candidate didn't win or if you dislike he candidate. I voted for Tim Ryan before I moved to Cleveland for years even though he was anti-choice...even in a primary once because we would lose the seat ...it killed me but I did it. And now Tim Ryan has changed his views and is pro-choice. But I am in Cleveland now. But I always liked Tim Ryan personally...he is a great rep.

(92,479 posts)part of his campaign are some of my reasons for why I won't vote for him in the primaries
All the other candidates are on my list except for Gabbard.
Debating differences on issues between the candidates is one thing, but continuously denigrating what they view as "establishment Democrats", and the Democratic party, is NOT the message we need for this extremely important election
We need a candidate who can not only UNITE DEMOCRATS, but also independents, and I believe all our candidates can do that, except for two, who have demonstrated that is not their intent

I'm not voting for Sanders either and won't repeat the reasons I have stated many times in the restrained terms allowed here. But I will say I believe choosing political leaders can sometimes be illuminating of character and morals in ways not all realize. For an outstanding example, just look at what supporting the RW populist leader in spite of his statements and behaviors tells us about those folk.

(58,785 posts)But I assume her audience tends to like smears against Democrats since they're standard items on her menu.
As in 2016, Sanders is constantly useful in her efforts to elect Republicans, especially now that she has to do it with as little mention as possible of Trump or of the intense corruptions and scary betrayals of the senate Republicans.

(15,320 posts)in large part because Bernie Sanders just had to run again in 2020 even though he has no chance. He lost in 2016 and he will lose in 2020 after refusing to drop out yet again. So, we get to vote for Biden in 2020 and hope that's good enough. Fucking yay.
