Biden: Mitch McConnell Will Become 'Mildly Cooperative' With Democrats Post-Trump

Huffington Post

Joe Biden believes that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) ― the man who refused to even vote on Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court ― will suddenly become “mildly cooperative” with Democrats once Donald Trump is no longer president.

The former vice president and current Democratic presidential candidate made his rosy prediction at a Tuesday fundraiser in New York City at the mega law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He said he believes that “all politics is the logical extension of human nature, personal relationships.”

Tuesday’s remarks seemed to be an elaboration of his earlier comments that he thinks Republicans will have an “epiphany” once Trump leaves office and will start cooperating with Democrats.

“With Donald Trump out of the way, you’re going to see a number of my Republican colleagues have an epiphany. Mark my words. Mark my words,” Biden said at a fundraiser at another powerful law firm in November.

primary today, I would vote for:

I get that some haven't been following politics for long but there are areas where McConnell might work "with" us on certain issues.

Immigration reform is at the top of the list of issues he will work with us on. Of course so much of it depends on the numbers.

Anyone acting as if this is a bad statement by Biden is agenda driven or knows very little about politics.

desire for personal power, naturally conservative but mostly soulless and without ruling political ideology. He's tied his fortunes to the new kleptocracy he's helped create, and when serving their interests means working with Democrats he will.

Also, even assuming Republicans kept control of the senate, it's extremely unlikely that they'd have enough votes to be able to override the Democratic president's vetos. They'd HAVE to deal to get what they want.

but short form is majority rules in the chamber, although legislation can be vetoed by the president. A bad situation to be avoided.

Of course every competent president expects Democrats in congress to work across the aisle if necessary to get enough numbers to pass legislation. The president comes into it when he can help get the numbers needed.

That's the democratic process, actually only works as it's supposed to when people HAVE to reach agreements. And Biden's known to be very good at it.
