Democratic Primaries

Huffington PostThe former vice president and current Democratic presidential candidate made his rosy prediction at a Tuesday fundraiser in New York City at the mega law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He said he believes that all politics is the logical extension of human nature, personal relationships.
Tuesdays remarks seemed to be an elaboration of his earlier comments that he thinks Republicans will have an epiphany once Trump leaves office and will start cooperating with Democrats.
With Donald Trump out of the way, youre going to see a number of my Republican colleagues have an epiphany. Mark my words. Mark my words, Biden said at a fundraiser at another powerful law firm in November.

(24,123 posts)that's PRECISELY why he WON'T be the Democratic nominee!! Bernie has done an EXCELLENT job pointing out the votes he cast in opposition to Joe, which has catapulted Bernie to the top tier in the polls... and he'll only go higher as other candidates start to drop out of the race.

(2,061 posts)I get that some haven't been following politics for long but there are areas where McConnell might work "with" us on certain issues.
Immigration reform is at the top of the list of issues he will work with us on. Of course so much of it depends on the numbers.
Anyone acting as if this is a bad statement by Biden is agenda driven or knows very little about politics.

(58,785 posts)desire for personal power, naturally conservative but mostly soulless and without ruling political ideology. He's tied his fortunes to the new kleptocracy he's helped create, and when serving their interests means working with Democrats he will.
Also, even assuming Republicans kept control of the senate, it's extremely unlikely that they'd have enough votes to be able to override the Democratic president's vetos. They'd HAVE to deal to get what they want.

(58,785 posts)but short form is majority rules in the chamber, although legislation can be vetoed by the president. A bad situation to be avoided.
Of course every competent president expects Democrats in congress to work across the aisle if necessary to get enough numbers to pass legislation. The president comes into it when he can help get the numbers needed.
That's the democratic process, actually only works as it's supposed to when people HAVE to reach agreements. And Biden's known to be very good at it.

Equally naive in reality. Trump holds rallies all the time to complain.
The reality as democrats is we must push and work for Amy McGrath to unseat Mitch so the grim reaper is not a factor anymore.

(52,170 posts)and I wish Biden would quit telling us that he thinks the GOP will do x after the election. I have no problem with him promising to work with the GOP but I have major problems with him telling us the GOP will behave in a certain way. McConnell is who McConnell is. The one and only way his behavior will change is if he thinks the GOP will lose Senate control if he doesn't change his behavior.
