PolitiFact nails Sanders campaign's claim that Biden backed Paul Ryan on SS cuts as FALSE

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2020/jan/09/bernie-sanders/did-biden-laud-paul-ryan-proposal-cut-social-secur/

A Sanders campaign newsletter said, "In 2018, Biden lauded Paul Ryan for proposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare."

That stems from a speech Biden gave in 2018 in which he spoke about Ryan. Biden appeared to be mocking Ryan, not praising him.

The Sanders campaign omitted what Biden said next: the importance of protecting Social Security and Medicare and to change the tax code, which he said benefitted the mega rich. Overall, the point of Biden’s speech was to criticize tax cuts for the rich and call for more help to the middle class.

The Sanders campaign plucked out part of what Biden said but omitted the full context of his comments.

We rate this statement False.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

complete with photographs.

The comeback - that Warren did closed door fundraisers was TRUE, but FALSE to omit that funds were for races against the GOP, not fellow Democrats. It was TRUE that Warren rolled over $10m from her Senate Campaign, but FALSE to compare that to presidential primaries where the biggest money donors get first hand input into next Administration policy, and historically trade ambassadorships, like the owner of the wine cave, Craig Hall, did for his wife Katheryn in 1997 after donating hundreds of thousands in 1996 (the situation before McCain Feingold).

Craig Hall is exactly the sort of billionaire who trades megabucks for influence. The scandal of deals done for him in 1988 forced then-House Speaker Jim Wright to resign.

Although political junkies know Pete was splurging on billionaire bashes, the public did not. After twitter dubbed him # Wine Cave Pete, his polling crashed, and has not recovered. The public has a right to know who is behind their favored candidates. Now they do. It has not hurt Joe, but Pete is presenting himself as a clean skin bringing a new kind of politics to Washington. In fact it was the same 'ol, same 'ol. If voters wanted a return to the status quo in Washington they would be voting for Joe, a man they can trust, as they are in droves, not some neophyte who is new to the influence game.

Totally justified, Totally effective, and totally TRUE. Not comparable to David Sirota's LIES.

The kind of people he's hired are the kind he's always hired. This is the real real Bernie Sanders.

Read about people who believe they're right about everything and that everyone who doesn't agree with them is wrong, and usually corrupt. That's Sanders' lifelong pattern, as is that being the only person who is right justifies whatever it takes to win, maybe an absolute duty.

Certainly if I believed "only he can fix it," I'd consider he had a duty to.

He's not going to be the Democratic (when he's running for Prez - only) version of Ron Paul and even if her were, Paul's influence diminished after each run. 2024 is probably out of the question if a Dem wins the White house. 2028 would make him 90 after the end of his first term.

Ultimately, the people that believe in him will have to find a new steward to lead their movement and I'm not sure some of his allies are going to wait their turn during a 3rd Sanders run if we don't win in 2020.

of freezing spending on SS, Medicare and Medicaid - as well support of raising the retirement age for SS eligibility ….The CSPAN video proves that to be a fact …. Bernie Sanders has opposed this every step of the way ...Demonizing David Sirota won't alter the historical record …. In 1995 , Biden addressed the Senate floor and bragged that he worked with the Senator from Iowa for a freeze in all federal spending … ….Joe is a fiscal conservative who supported the Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment ….He worked with Boehner and McConnell to achieve the so called Grand Bargain while he was Vice-President ….It is a respectable position that he should own up to ...

at the time Sirota claimed...but decades earlier during the Reagan years and he never voted that way just said it He and Ted Kennedy don't have 100% from the RTA but 89% because they voted to increase the age you collect SS...was supposed to take us to 2047. But of course the GOP will always lie...During the Reagan years, Democrats had to play along or lose...hell GOP had the presidency for 12 years...and Clinton (with help from Perot) ended it...Clinton never had a majority either...not in 92 or 96. And without Clinton, the pugs would have had it for 16 years maybe more. Biden can be trusted with SS...the candidate I would worry about is Bloomberg. He could make deals with the GOP.
