New DM Register/Selzer Iowa poll finds Dem voters still think Biden's most electable

Haven't seen that mentioned here yet. For some odd reason.

It's the last section of the poll:

http://cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2020/images/01/10/rel1_ia.-.democrats.pdf

Biden led the other three top candidates when voters were asked:
Which of the following best describes your first-choice candidate:
Is the one I like best and has the best chance to defeat President Trump

He also led when voters were asked if their first-choice candidate
Is not the one I like best, but has the best chance to defeat President Trump

All 4 top candidates had some supporters who apparently chose that candidate primarily for electability, but Biden had more.

When voters were asked if their first-choice candidate
Is the one I like best, though someone else has a better chance to defeat President Trump

Biden supporters were least likely to agree (Warren supporters were most likely to respond affirmatively to this question, followed by Buttigige supporters).

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Look, it was a stunningly great poll for Sanders. He surged +5 from the last poll into the lead right before the next debate and the actual caucus.

And this wasn't just any old Iowa poll, it was The Des Moine Register Poll, the acknowledged BLUE RIBBON gold standard poll for Iowa.

As a Warren supporter, I can see that as a fact and acknowledge it.

If you like to call one poll from an all white Midwest state "stunningly great" for Bernie because he surged 5 points in that poll, cool!!

Congrats to Bernie and his one-poll-surge!

This is the 'odd reason.'

SELZER & COMPANY Study #2206
3,131 active registered voters in Iowa, January 2-8, 2020
including 701 likely Democratic caucusgoers Weighted by age and congressional district
Margin of error for all registered voters: ±1.8 percentage points
Margin of error for likely Democratic caucusgoers: ±3.7 percentage points

9. Yes. 7/10 of 1% difference at 538, as I already mentioned in another post somewhere. Just for Iowa.

RCP has Sanders only 3/10 of 1% ahead of Buttigieg in Iowa, though he's 3.6% ahead of Biden.

The polls really haven't given us any clear idea who will win Iowa.

I know Sanders supporters are thrilled to see Sanders in the lead in the latest Register/Selzer poll, but it is notable that his 20% support is the lowest of any front-runner in their poll, all year. Buttigieg was at 25% when he led, Biden at 24%, Warren at 22%. There was a wider range between the 1st and 4th place candidates when each of those three led than there is in this new poll.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
