Connecticut poll finds that 19.2% of Republicans surveyed said they'd vote for Biden over Trump,

if Biden is the nominee.

I've already posted another OP about the poll's primary and GE results

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287418149

but I wanted to highlight this finding.

https://www.sacredheart.edu/media/sacredheart/instituteforpublicpolicy/GreatBlue--Sacred-Heart-University-Pioneer-Poll-Report-Q4-2019-MONDAY-(Presidential-CandidatesImpeachment).pdf

(I see DU's software is breaking that URL up because of the parenthese, so you should copy and paste the entire URL into your address bar, or go to 538's page on Connectict polls and click on the link for the Sacred Heart University poll:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/connecticut/ )

In December 2019, when registered Democratic respondents were given the names of the front runners of the Democratic Party, the highest rate of respondents (33.0%) reported they would vote for Joe Biden, followed by Bernie Sanders (19.3%), Elizabeth Warren (17.8%), and Pete Buttigieg (11.2%). When all respondents were asked who they would vote for if the presidential race in 2020 was between each of those candidates and Donald Trump, the highest rate of respondents chose Bernie Sanders (52.3%) over Donald Trump (35.2%), followed by Joe Biden (51.7% over 32.3% Donald Trump), Elizabeth Warren (48.8% over 35.7% Donald Trump), and Pete Buttigieg (46.9% over 33.4% Donald Trump).

19.2% of Republican residents surveyed reported if the Presidential race was between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, they would vote for Joe Biden.

Emphasis added.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Nothing against Connecticut, but we typically win that state regardless of how many republicans flip.

If you want to know how they've been going, just go to FiveThirtyEight's polls page

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/

and click on the State drop-down menu to choose the state whose polls you want to check.

And yes, I know we usually win Connecticut.

But I think it's important that this poll also found such a large percentage of Republicans who say they'd vote for Biden over Trump.

Btw, I don't know if they polled Republicans on other Democratic candidates vs Trump. Haven't been able to find any info on that yet.

Joe is the most electable candidate. If he can draw voters in the middle, he will rack up the wins.

That is important in this election. The victory can't be razor thin or trump will try to stay. It has to be yuge. It has to be decisive. Everyone needs to vote, not be childish and peeved their candidate didn't win.

Sun Jan 12, 2020, 01:17 PM
Jan 2020

I don't want a candidate republicans love. Tell me how your candidate can engage democratic voters and undecideds. I want a candidate that finally ends this shift to the right for good. He/she will have to be bold and unapologetically liberal to turn this country around for the poor and the middle class.

Republican voters may love Biden, but will they vote for Republican Senate and House, essentially neutering Biden?

We need a sea change in voter participation. Who will bring the young people to the polls? That's who we need to support.

I want Republican voters to stay home, honestly. They can't be trusted to choose leaders to run this country.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Personally, I think this number is a bit high.

But both regular polls and exit polls in 2008 showed that Obama got about 10% of Republican votes in that election.

That probably had a lot to do with his getting an electoral college victory and not just a popular vote victory.

I'll vote for him if he wins the primary, but we're leaving so many Americans behind by not running a democratic challenger they can get excited about. Hillary was an exceptional candidate and yet 2016 was stolen by suppressing vote, possibly manipulating votes, in swing states. We will lose the electoral college again, if we don't turn red states blue, like Texas. It's my opinion, we can't create a MASSIVE OVERWELMING turnout with an establishment, center left candidate like Biden. Young people could change everything and we have the opportunity to mobilize them by giving them a candidate that speaks to them. They are hurting. Ignore them at our peril.

We need turnout from all demographic blocs of the party, and from as many Trump-hating Republicans as possible.

The GE polls that have shown Biden doing better than any of our other candidates against Trump have been including young voters.

any President can keep are the ones that Republicans want anyway. All promises to Democrats are impossible.

My argument is that mobilizing young people will give us all all the levers of government to implement policies that help the middle and lower classes.

If we have the young voters, then our ideas of what we can and can't do will change dramatically.
