Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThe most squeaky clean candidate in our primary is Amy Klobuchar, imho.
She was my first choice before I moved over to Harris. Although she is a long shot, I 'm thinking about returning to Amy. Oh, and even though she is a woman, I'm sure she could easily clean Idiot's clock.

(17,865 posts)with Booker as her running mate. I picked her the day after the 2016 election. She is not very charismatic, and that will probably be her downfall. She shares a lot with Hillary Clinton - a superb technocrat but not inspirational like Bill Clinton or Obama.

(4,995 posts)Certainly Booker is more left than she is, but I don't know if that is enough.

(47,678 posts)She is a really good candidate and if Joe wasn't running, she would probably be my first choice. A close tie between her and Elizabeth Warren.

(47,678 posts)for many years. I really do believe that right now, he is the best person to beat Trump, as well as the most able to fix the messes that Trump has created. At this particular time in history, I believe that experience does count, plus Joe will surround himself with extraordinary people.
That said, if Amy Klobuchar became our nominee, I would be a very enthusiastic supporter.

(28,863 posts)But squeaky clean is not often a measure of success.
It should be. But its not.
I say her presidential chances come in the future. But I think VP is viable at this time.
She has my support for anything but this primary.

(9,275 posts)She would be an awesome running mate for Biden. And shes young, so in a good position to run for POTUS in the future.

(4,995 posts)If Biden gets the nomination, I hope he goes with someone significantly left of him.
That said, I do like Klobuchar. I would vote for her over Biden in the primary (I'm in Wisconsin, so no clue who will be left when it gets to us).

(7,277 posts)at the start of the campaign. A per-emptive strike by somebody, but certainly to resurface if nominated. She is clean, but not squeaky clean.

(2,657 posts)If Biden were not running, she would probably be my first pick. So, why Biden over Klobuchar? Well, I think most of the good things I could say about Biden would also apply to Klobuchar. They both work really hard, are very intelligent, are good with people, and really care about people.
Maybe it's just that I loved the way Joe Biden bested Sarah Palin in 2008, and then the way he destroyed Paul Ryan in 2012. Maybe it's how hard Biden worked side by side with Barack Obama. Maybe it's that I think that African Americans are key to this election, and they are supporting him big time. Or, maybe, just maybe, I have this feeling that Joe Biden with a VP like Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, or Val Demings would destroy Trump. Yeah, I think that's it.

(3,836 posts)I was really starting to like her for many reasons, and actually, I was thinking of changing my support to Klobuchar until I read this, which brought up some questions for sure
"Amy Klobuchar Under Fire for Vote Confirming Anti-LGBTQ Judge
Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar has come under fire for votes she cast to confirm anti-LGBTQ judges appointed by President Donald Trump. Of particular note, the U.S. senator from Minnesota in 2018 voted to confirm David Ryan Stras to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, despite his opposition to LGBTQ rights and comments deriding a landmark ruling striking down antisodomy laws."

(146,339 posts)vetted by progressives if she becomes a factor in the primaries. So far, she has not done so. That means that everyone is leaving her alone right now.
I love Amy Klobuchar as one of my Senators. However, if she becomes a real player in the presidential primaries, her record of working with Republicans, both in Minnesota and in Congress, will be pointed out in detail. She has supported some pretty unpopular things over time, all of which will become fodder for attacks, I guarantee.
She will not, however, become a major player in the 2020 primaries. So, I'm hoping people leave her alone. She represents our state very, very ably.

(12,165 posts)It's the GOP (and their democratic competitors) who create the perception that something small or something positive is the most awful thing in the world.
It's not something that I'm worried about. I'm going to do all I can to help gotv no matter who the nominee is.
