Food for thought.....what if tRump is removed before November?

You know--if the planets align?

Who will the rethugs run if tRump is gone, and will we still beat them? They would be foolish to run Pence. Bill Weld? I don't think they will get behind Romney, especially if he votes to allow witnesses in the impeachment trial.

I would be very interested to see polls where tRump is taken out of the equation, and, "Any Other Rethuglican" is inserted.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

to get anybody besides Pence on the ballot. Anyhow, although Pence has all the charisma of a bowl of cold oatmeal, the fundies love him - and the GOP can't win without the fundies. I think it would have to be Pence.

As long as the convention hasn't taken place, they can choose anyone who qualifies as a candidate.

They could even pick bernie. That's a joke, don't get bent, but it would be possible.

It's the same for dems. If we have the leading candidate get 2nd amendmented, the convention could vote for literally anyone.

Nothing is locked in until then.

trump forced the gop to not hold open primaries and almost all of the state gop org's went along with it.

That's why you aren't hearing about a challenge.

The delegates will simply show up at the convention and vote for trump, or whoever they are told to if trump isn't around.

They could even decide for the delegates and make an announcement. The courts won't interfere in how a party chooses its representative's.

People vote in primaries because the party rules say that's how it works, not because of legal reasons.

Elections are different. Nominations don't follow the same rules.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If elvis comes and gets him and takes him home, the party could easily choose any candidate they want.

Remember, there wasn't even such a thing as a national convention until 1831. Before then, parties simply chose a single candidate in private meetings. In the first two elections, candidates were chosen by the electoral college.

Parties have been making this up as they go along.

The MAGAts would be hell bent on punishing anyone involved in his ouster, and more.

Pence would be under a cloud. I imagine the House would move to impeach Barr.

Dems would have a yuge opportunity for a workable majority in the Senate, starting with ending the filibuster.

And this question would be the same.

In either case, Pence would be the potus and be the head of the gop. He would become the leading / default gop candidate instantly.

It would have to be confirmed at the gop convention, but that would be a formality.

The primaries follow a similar calendar so there's really not any time for anyone other than Weld and Walsh, who are legally lining up the chance for repugs to vote.

Trump has made a mess of the GOP. If Trump does get removed, there's going to be finger pointing, screaming, shrieking, all kinds of lip flapping and holy hell. Pence is the worst possible candidate the GOP could run, though probably the only one who trump deplorables might actually vote for. Romney would be the best one, but none of the trump deplorables would support him.

Personally, I do not see anyone on the GOP side who has a chance in November against the Democrats. That includes Trump.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
