Congratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!
Susan Bysiewicz: Joe Biden for president
Susan Bysiewicz is Connecticuts lieutenant governor. The 2020 election will be the most important election of our lifetime. This is not hyperbole or a cliche; it is a statement of fact. The Trump administration has tested our nation like no other since Watergate.
At home, President Donald Trump has abused his powers, and his policies have divided America while his dangerous foreign policy has alienated our allies and ceded influence and leadership across the globe to our adversaries.
I couldnt agree more with Joe Biden that the 2020 election will be a fight for the soul of our nation. Thats why I am supporting Joe Biden for president of the United States.
Domestically, Joe Bidens lifetime of personal and elected experience can unite our country so that we can heal and move past the malevolent chaos of the Trump administration. A son of Scranton, Joe Biden has never forgotten his working class roots and spent his career in the United States Senate fighting for middle class families and families who dreamed of becoming middle class.
[Opinion] Hey, stop telling us which Democratic candidate is electable »
Joe Biden is running for president to return our nations economic focus to growing the middle class and building an economy that works for everyone not just the wealthy and well-connected. After all, he and President Obama led our nation out of the Great Recession, helmed an economy that gained 11.6 million jobs, drove down the unemployment rate to below the historical levels and increased whole average weekly earnings for all workers.
Womens issues are economic issues, and there is no more important issue to women than their physical safety. Some of Joe Bidens most important work aligns with my values, the work of the Lamont/Bysiewicz administration and my work as chair of the Governors Council on Women and Girls. From protecting access to affordable health care and reducing the maternal mortality rate to ensuring pay equity, paid family medical leave and economic opportunity, Joe Biden is a champion on issues affecting women and all families.
Perhaps there is no place where our values more align than his work on domestic violence and violence against women.
As United States Senator, he wrote and championed the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, established the first-ever White House Advisor on Violence Against Women during the Obama-Biden administration and launched a national campaign to change the culture surrounding campus rape and sexual assault.
This election is not just about our economic security and safety; our national security depends on the judgment of our commander-in-chief. From his actions against Iran to abandoning our Kurdish allies in Syria and his invitation of foreign interference in our political process, Donald Trump has made the world a more dangerous place.
There is no candidate for president on the Democratic or Republican side of the aisle more qualified than Joe Biden when it comes to foreign affairs. As Senate chairman of the foreign relations committee and vice president of the United States, Joe Biden built relationships with leaders in foreign capitals in every corner of the world. We need a president that can build coalitions and attract allies, not kowtow to despots and dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.
The Democratic Party has been blessed with a field of talented candidates; however, this critical moment in our nations history calls for Vice President Bidens experience, decency and leadership. There is no one better prepared to serve in the Oval Office.
I truly believe that Vice President Biden is the best candidate to unite this nation and repair the United States standing around the world. Our country needs Joe Biden in the White House.

....and then was elected Secretary of the State (yes, in CT they add that "the" in the title!)
I've met her dozens of times, a very nice and SMART woman. She's been to most of our party functions, and contributed to our Democratic candidates in town.
