Democratic Primaries

How do Democratic presidential candidates, the voter asked without directly mentioning Mr. Sanderss clash with Senator Elizabeth Warren, avoid infighting?
Mr. Sanders, of Vermont, briefly criticized the news media which he said often wants and exaggerates conflict before noting he had not targeted any of his rivals in his remarks.
The best thing for all the Democratic candidates, he said, was to focus on issues of the working families of America.
Yet after Mr. Sanders and Ms. Warren, of Massachusetts, angrily accused one another of lying about whether he had told her a woman could not defeat President Trump, and with just over two weeks until the Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses, supporters of the two progressives and erstwhile political allies remained upset.
I was really disappointed, said Jayne Cousins, an ardent Sanders supporter who attended his rally here. She predicted Ms. Warrens claim, which Mr. Sanders denies, would adversely impact Ms. Warren because, she said, it was so implausible.
But when Ms. Warren returned to Iowa for the first time since her confrontation with Mr. Sanders on the debate stage in Des Moines, it was not difficult to find voters who said the opposite: that Mr. Sanders would pay a price for what they saw as his insensitivity on one of the most fraught issues in the primary.
I have a lot of friends who said they wont vote for him, because of the incident, said David Jansen, who attended Ms. Warrens town-hall-style meeting in Newton, Iowa, on Friday.
The tensions between the two candidates began a week ago, after a report that Mr. Sanderss campaign had told its field organizers to characterize Ms. Warrens base as affluent and elite, which caused the Massachusetts senator to say she was disappointed in Mr. Sanders.

(42,641 posts)And the election results from 2016 validated that.
Far more concerning, in my view, is that 47% of eligible voters did not bother to vote in 2016. If we could motivate these apathetic adults, we could change the political face of the country.

(14,600 posts)Because Warren and Sanders, were they one candidate, and not two, would likely win over Biden.
Truth is, George, I'm getting tired of this run-up to the primaries. I'm so happy Iowa is around the corner and that by March 3, we will have an idea of who our nominee will be.
Now, you know I like Warren this time around and was a big Bernie guy in '16, but after three years of Trump, anyone with a pulse is going to get my full support, including donations and probably volunteering to at least make calls.
We're all in it together.

(10,845 posts)Particularly when you consider the people Sanders hired as key members of his campaign. He may have put Jeff Weaver behind the scenes (though Weaver was out there after this blew up), but Sanders has other attack dogs who are doing same old, same old from the 2016 script.
Not a good look. And yes, it's going to turn voters off.

(2,412 posts)Fighting hurts us all as Democrats. Fighting is what Republicans live for, conflict, anger, hate, aggression are not worthy of a good leader. They should shut it down and let voters decide whose platform and whose values are important to them and just vote. This type of dirty fighting is beneath our dignity.
