Biden's student debt plan offers $10,000/yr debt forgiveness for up to 5 years for public servants

I've already posted another OP about Biden's plan for higher education

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287443786

but I want to emphasize part of it, since it does offer up to $50,000 of student debt forgiveness for those working in public service jobs.

Make loan forgiveness work for public servants. Public servants do the hard work that is essential to our country’s success – protecting us, teaching our children, keeping our streets clean and our lights on, and so much more. But the program designed to help these individuals serve without having to worry about the burden of their student loans – the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program – is broken. Biden will create a new, simple program which offers $10,000 of undergraduate or graduate student debt relief for every year of national or community service, up to five years. Individuals working in schools, government, and other non-profit settings will be automatically enrolled in this forgiveness program; up to five years of prior national or community service will also qualify. Additionally, Biden will fix the existing Public Service Loan Forgiveness program by securing passage of the What You Can Do For Your Country Act of 2019. Biden will ensure adjunct professors are eligible for this loan forgiveness, depending on the amount of time devoted to teaching.

This will only give non-civil service workers more reason to vilify government workers.

Students who go into the private sector probably need it more than those in the public sector, depending on the field.

That was before government workers were unionized. Now government pays more. Plus they have better benefits.

Government Workers Average More

As of May 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that on average, workers employed by federal, state and local governments made more than those employed by the private sector. Private sector employees in all industries reported an average salary of $44,600 per year. During the same period, government workers reported an average annual salary of $51,840 -- $7,240 per year more than private-sector employees.

Federal Workers Make the Most

While government workers tend to make more, there are significant disparities between the three levels of government. Local government employees earn the least, at an average of $47,360 per year in 2012 -- not much higher than the average private-sector employee. State employees did somewhat better, with an average annual salary of $50,570 per year. However, the federal government paid far more, with an average employee salary of $76,470 -- about $32,000 more per year than the average private worker.

It's like somebody said 'how can we say we did something about student loan debt without really doing anything?'

I'd hate to think somebody said 'how can we make it look like we did something about student loans and as a twofer make people more distrustful and angry at each other?' No, they probably didn't but same result.
