NYT: Fact-Checking Joe Biden Before the Iowa Caucuses.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/26/us/politics/biden-factcheck.html

"The former vice president has made inaccurate claims this month about his record on Social Security, race and foreign policy."

Goes into several issues related to Biden's history as a legislator and VP. Here's how it starts:

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. remains atop most national polls before the first votes are cast next month in the Democratic presidential primary. Before the Iowa caucuses, The New York Times reviewed recent statements he made defending his decades-long career, stressing his standing in the black community and highlighting his perceived strength on foreign policy. Here’s a fact check.

WHAT THE FACTS ARE

Mr. Biden tried to defend his record on Social Security and birth control with questionable claims.

WHAT WAS SAID

Antonia Hylton, a reporter for Vice News: “Do you think, though, that it’s fair for voters to question your commitment to Social Security when in the past you’ve proposed a freeze to it?”

Mr. Biden: “No, I didn’t propose a freeze.”
— at the Brown & Black Democratic Presidential Forum last week in Iowa

False. In 1984, faced with budget deficits under the Reagan administration, Mr. Biden was a co-sponsor of an amendment with two Republican senators that froze for one year nearly all military and domestic spending, including cost-of-living adjustments to Social Security benefits.

Tell us why we SHOULD vote for Bernie. Not why we shouldn’t vote for someone else.

Part of a primary election is comparing the records of candidates. Note: This is not a personal attack against Joe Biden where I am questioning his character. This is a policy-based criticism.

It froze all spending. It’s not like he wanted to freeze social security, but buy 3 new aircraft carriers. I don’t think this has the effect you think it does.

...the now junior Senator (imagine a 78 year old being the "junior" Senator???) from Vermont doing back in 1984? That's right, he was the Mayor of a town of 35,000 people in Vermont!

BTW, the NY Times should look into legislative terminology. As noted, Biden said he "didn’t propose a freeze", which IS correct. HE DIDN'T PROPOSE IT!!!! Later on you posted that he "was a co-sponsor of an amendment with two Republican senators that froze for one year".

Surely you must realize that a "co-sponsor" doesn't "propose" legislation, don't you? That's the job of a "sponsor"!!!

The lengths some will go to in order to make a candidate look bad, even if incorrect.

It makes much more sense than this strange battle against objective reality. He said it many times with great passion on the Senate floor, on TV and it's all on record.
