DNC Committee Appointments - Who Gets Chosen?

It's funny how political parties work, really. But it's also not hard to figure out. At all levels of Democratic Party organizations, it is the solid Democrats who have worked for and in the organization who get elected and appointed to various committees and boards. That's the nature of a political party's organization.

So, when it comes time to appoint people to chair committees at the Democratic National Convention, guess who gets selected to head and be members of those committees? It's the well-known, established Democrats who have devoted much of their lives to helping Democrats get elected to office. Why wouldn't it be?

Those people have worked their way up from being lowly precinct chairs and district committee members to be elected to higher and higher positions in the local, district, state, and national party organization. Some have been elected to office. Others have quietly and steadily devoted their time over the years to help Democrats win offices.

That process of gaining influence and achieving high positions takes years and even decades to happen. The DNC is the Democratic National Committee. Its members are long-time, hard-working Democrats. Very few, if any, are newcomers to the Democratic Party. That's because proving oneself as a Democrat who has earned the respect of other Democrats does not happen quickly.

That can be frustrating for someone who has just recently declared as a Democrat or who has dropped into the party to run for an office. State and National Democratic organizations are made up of long-term Democrats, not newcomers. It is those reliable, hard-working Democrats who get selected to chair committees at the National Nominating Convention. Nobody else should expect such a committee appointment.

That's how it works.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Someone who hasn't paid dues and is even hostile to an organization should have zero expectations of having a position of power and influence in one.

It's very trumpian to expect to be included in something at a high level when you don't have the experience, skills, or temperament to do the job.

Those who pay their dues over the years get appointed to important positions. Those who don't, don't.

It's not a matter of wanting to do anything with regard to an individual candidate. It's an organizational reality.

Just because "that's how it works" doesn't mean that the people in charge need to intentionally alienate voters.

supporters to work at the grassroots level of the party. And he needs to do this for years.

He doesn't get to pull the rug out from under hard-working democrats who have supported the party for decades. They are allowed to hold views that are not as leftist as Sanders' platform.
