Are those upset about Sanders lack of "Democratic loyalty" similarly upset about Bloomberg?

"Weighing 2020 Bid, Michael Bloomberg Registers as a Democrat"
By Mark Niquette
October 10, 2018, 5:52 AM EDT

"Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that he is formally changing his voter registration to Democrat, a possible step toward running for president in 2020. Bloomberg, 76, has been a political independent since abandoning his Republican Party registration in 2007... "
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-10/michael-bloomberg-registering-as-democrat-as-he-weighs-2020-bid-jn2z6gyr

Please note that the source for this is Bloomberg News. And that Bloomberg first held elective office as a Republican, winning the office of NYC Mayor on the Republican line in 2001 and in 2005 before winning it for a third time as an Independent.

Personally I am not bent out of shape by the above, being a little bit familiar with NYC politics. Of far more concern to me about Bloomberg though is who he has been willing to endorse in other important political races, which included some Republicans.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

- Endorsed George W. Bush and spoke on his behalf in front of millions on people at the RNC
- Endorsed Susan Collins
- Endorsed Scott Brown over Elizabeth Warren
- Endorsed Pat Toomey giving him credibility with enough suburban moms in 2016 to cost Katie McGinty the election
- By doing these actions has completely prevented meaningful gun reform and any of the things he claims to care about

And it looks like he'll spend perhaps a billion more in 2020 on Democrats and Dem causes, even if he's not the nominee. At present, it's pretty hard to argue that he isn't a positive for Democrats.

Bloomberg also seems a lot less selective in whom he chooses to support than Sanders does. Sanders seems to be interested primarily in assisting Democrats or other politicians with whom he shares an ideological bent.

That's not what we need in 2020. We need to support and elect every Democrat we can, regardless of where they are on the spectrum, and we need to understand that different regions require different approaches. We can't get to 51 in the Senate without progressives, liberals, and some moderates. The math just isn't there.

Like Sanders, if I am wrong about that, of course he is far better than Trump, and I will suck it up.

If I'm right, I see Bloomberg as strategically helpful to our ultimate nominee. In the current situation - which we are in BECAUSE of NON-VOTERS AND THIRD PARTY VOTERS IN 2016 - there is nothing Bloomberg brings that is substantively damaging to our recovery. Sanders, on the other hand, has a record of lukewarm, ineffectual support of the Democratic nominee. Unlike Bloomberg, Sanders will NOT bring his supporters in to support the eventual nominee if it is not himself.

Therefore, Sanders annoys me FAR more than Bloomberg. Bloomberg has been an ass in many ways in the past. But he will serve the current purpose in a positive way.

30. If Bloomberg remains out of the running your reasoning is sound
Tue Jan 28, 2020, 02:45 PM
Jan 2020

However he has shown himself to date to be lukewarm at best about the policies advocated by our more progressive candidates, namely Warren and Sanders, and many of his high profile supporters and surrogates have been much more openly hostile toward those candidacies than Bloomberg has publicly been himself. So in a possible scenario, such as I sketched out above, in which Biden fades and the seeming front runner becomes Sanders (or for the purpose of this discussion Warren also) the question remains. Bloomberg gives zero indication that he would not battle either Sanders or Warren for the nomination tooth and nail, with his unlimited financial resources, on Super Tuesday and beyond.

You wrote "Unlike Bloomberg, Sanders will NOT bring his supporters in to support the eventual nominee if it is not himself.". If the nominee ends up being Biden, or Klobuchar, or perhaps Buttigieg, I think you are right about Bloomberg. If it is Sanders or Warren, however, I am not so confident he will do a better job at it than Sanders did in 2016 when he did endorse and campaign for nominee (which I hope Bloomberg would do also for Sanders or Warren).

If I were to vote in a presidential

And they will NOT vote for Trump or 3rd party. (unless they were trolling the Dem party to begin with)

Bloomberg voters will be more reliable voters for even a Sanders or Warren candidacy, because they are consistent voters at a much higher rate than the younger voters who tend to support BS.

I think Bloomberg would be somewhat annoyed but would still do everything he could to replace Trump, even if the nominee is Sanders.

Joe Lieberman comes to mind who backed McCain against Obama. There are Republicans sitting in the Senate today, prepared to acquit Trump of all charges against him, that Bloomberg personally helped get elected.

Aside from elected Republicans who have been aligned with Bloomberg in the recent past, I am confident Bloomberg surrogates would fall in behind a Biden or a Klobuchar, but not necessarily behind our eventual nominee if it isn't one of them or Bloomberg himself. Bloomberg at one point seriously considered running as an Independent himself for President.
