This would be more persuasive, imo, if it didn't include all the 'REAL DEMOCRATS' stuff.

What's the goal here, to persuade or demonize?

We need to be smarter than this.

He was pushing his own slate of candidates at the time. So the guy capped Real Democrats. As opposed to Justice, Brand New, and Our Revo. He was describing how well Democrats did while the off brands tanked.

"Tracing its heritage back to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison's Democratic-Republican Party, the modern-day Democratic Party was founded around 1828 by supporters of Andrew Jackson, making it the world's oldest active political party." Wiki

'The Democratic Party's philosophy of modern liberalism advocates social and economic equality, along with the welfare state. It seeks to provide government regulation in the economy. Policies such as environmental protection, support for organized labor and labor unions, the introduction of social programs, affordable college tuition, universal health care, equal opportunity, and consumer protection form the core of the party's economic policy. On social issues, it advocates campaign finance reform, LGBT rights, police and immigration reform, stricter gun laws, and the legalization of marijuana.' - Wiki

but the rest of them were close, and margins became closer as the days and (D)wins piled up. So I'm willing to cut Bernie a break in that the wave was blue, it reached high tide, it was wide, but the final crest was just over the top for some candidates.

In my opinion, division in the Democratic party is something Bernie Sanders sees as a plus, and so he sows it. In the relief we all felt after the 2018 election, it wasn't helpful when (not-a-Democrat-at-the-time) Senator Sanders poo-poohed the results. Why? It was clearly a sweeping victory, and there were governorships won, too. What was his endgame in being so derisive?

It is never a good idea to count your chickens before they hatch. The idea of a close election brings people out and gives us the result of 2018. The idea that it will be handed to us with no work at all, gives us the results like 2016.

That's not managing expectations! Has Michael Moore been managing expectations since 2000 then? He always predicts the Dems will lose. Bernie is not in this for Democrats. He's in this for himself.

Not sure if you remember but Moore was going to colleges and handing out free gear to register college students to vote for Kerry in 2004. He has been on our nominee's side, and making a prediction doesn't discount that.

Tue Jan 28, 2020, 10:31 PM

In February 2016, Chait argued in New York Magazine that "Liberals Should Support a Trump Republican Nomination", predicting among other things that a Trump presidency would develop similar to the governorship of Arnold Schwarzenegger in California (who like Trump was a celebrity who became a Republican politician without prior public service experience).[24] In 2019, The Outline selected this piece as one of the "worst takes of the 2010s", opining that "Chait’s immensely confident take [...] is a humiliating crystallization of the wrongheaded thinking that propelled [Trump] to the White House."[25]
