Why I am going to work my ass off to get a Sanders win in the Primary

So first a little background.
I am a 49-year-old self-employed guy who lives paycheck to paycheck. I walk with a limp because of a car crash five years ago. I have only really ever campaigned for one other person, Obama.

So understand when I say I am going to campaign for Sanders, I don't say that lightly. I was going to phone bank but apparently the Sanders campaign stopped phone banking. They wanted 5 million phone calls and accidentally did 7 million. Oops. So instead I will probably board a bus to physically canvass in Iowa next Saturday. My social anxiety will love that I am sure.

So why am I dragging my arthritic self around in very cold Iowa to talk to strangers?

First, Change.
The Same reason I walked for Obama is the same reason I will walk for Sanders, things need to change.

I am drowning in student debt I can't' pay. I depend on health insurance I can only get from the ACA, an ACA that is slowly being dismantled by both Republicans and Democrats. Income inequality gets worse and I am definitely on the wrong side of that divide. Besides my own self, I have nieces and nephews who will face the worst effects of Climate change. The US has been a destabilizing force in the Middle East more often than not regardless of the party of the President. How many millions are in jail because they got caught with pot?

Neither I nor others have the privilege of waiting for small incremental changes and half measures that will probably never pay off. I cant afford to be a bargaining chip for some "Grand Bargain" with the republicans.

And second, Sincerity.

I have been following Sanders's career for at least 20 years now. He has been consistent. Too many other times I was promised change only to see that candidate abandon it as soon as they get into office. Maybe it was republican opposition. Or maybe they never really meant it. I can't tell and that doubt makes me wonder why I bothered in the first place.

I don't have to ask that of Sanders. I know he means what he says. I know he will fight for these things

Its great that many dem Candidates have moved left. But Sanders didn't need to move. He didn't' just happens to evolve right around election time. He was already there even when those positions were unpopular. Thats the joke among Bernie supporters. For every bad idea the US has ever done, there's a video of Sanders from years ago warning us not to do it. For every woke idea we now accept, there's one of Sanders in support of it when it was still considered radical.

I think I understand why so many attacks Sanders are against his character. Ita tactic pioneered by Karl rove: Attack your opponent where he is strongest. So even his opponents agree. Sanders's greatest strength is his Sincerity.

So that is why I am working FOR something. Not just against but for.

primary today, I would vote for:

This will be exciting for us both, tho!

I actually voted for Bernie before, in the 2016 primary here in CT. I told my husband I wanted to "send a message" to the Dem Party that there was a commitment to change within the Party that I wanted to see. Hubby was for Hilary straight through.

I do feel Bernie has done a service to the party. But I think he is really too old -- and I say this as an old person. But mostly, I am for a woman who is ready to be President and will do great things for our country.

and I am ok with honest disagreement. Even when I obviously .. disagree.

It is frustrating explaining how this election could literally affect my life span and the reply is "meh"

I appreciate you having a dialogue instead
