Principles and Morality [View all]
In my opinion, we tend to think too much about the political implications of issues, rather than if they are right or wrong? We hesitate because it may cause us to lose an election or keep people from going to vote. If we don't win the election, nothing else really matters.
Well, it does matter.
Racism, hate, misogyny, xenophobia, and kidnapping should never be weighed solely from a political perspective. It is wrong to preach hate and racism. It is wrong to take children from their parents because they committed a misdemeanor of crossing a border in search of a better life. It is wrong to denigrate our First Amendment by calling journalists "enemies of the people".
If we stand up and defend what is right and moral, the politics will take care of itself. We should not argue whether or not it will be popular with the voters. We should only argue whether it is right or wrong. And let the chips fall where they may.
