…the Tech Billionaires. “

And he does mean fantasies. The mindset of these men is both frightening, and to someone like me, utterly hilarious.

Several years ago I saw a published article (probably at DU) about a high-tech bunker that to me said it all: along with the swimming pool and billiards room and so on, I realized there were no rooms for a nursery or mention of any accommodation for women. Even crazy Dr Strangelove and his hyper-masculine military cohort shouted at the end not to forget to bring along “the secretaries” — which any fool would understand to mean “nubile females.” There is no future without women young enough to bear children. None. Any colonist knows you have to prepare for that eventuality.

When Professor Rushkoff was invited to speak to a group of people he thought would be maybe a hundred investment bankers, he ended up with half a dozen billionaires, all male. Skipping ahead, let’s say they got down to the gritty details of things like, how you control your security forces — maybe electric dog collars? Secret codes for the food supplies? When Rushkoff suggested maybe getting to know them and their families in advance of the apocalypse — as he put it, “Offer to pay for their daughter’s bat mitzvah,” they looked at him like he was speaking gibberish.

Solipsists.

Well, off to read the story at your link. Thanks.
