(16,646 posts)He has antisocial personality disorder. That means he has no conscience, no capacity for empathy, and no concern for anything except his own desires.
One reason people like him get away with so much crap is the fact that other people (those of us without disordered personalities like his) find it very hard to fathom that someone could really be that unconcerned with the welfare or feelings of others or that out of touch with the fact that some things are just plain wrong.
I'm pretty sure that's why some people keep making excuses for him when he says outrageous things. We've all heard them:
"Oh, he doesn't really mean that. "
"He doesn't mean that the way it sounds."
"That's just bluster/big talk!"
"You can't take him seriously."
"You have to take him with a grain of salt."
And on and on. The problem is, he does mean all those things, and he means them that way. We can't afford to lose sight of that, as hard as it may be to get our heads around it. Our resistance to believing anyone could really be that bad is exactly what makes him so dangerous.
He caught a lot of people off guard on January 6, 2021, because too many were still in denial about how evil he is. A lot of eyes were opened that day, but not in time to stop him. We can't let ourselves be caught flat-footed like that EVER again.
