WHY? WTF? NBC/MSNBC Hires Ronna McDaniel as Commentator [View all]

The New York Times reported this morning that NBC has just hired ousted RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel as their new political commentator for news shows on NBC and MSNBC.

Out of the tens of millions of Republicans in America, for some inexplicable reason, NBC has decided that Trump sycophant McDaniel is the best person to provide useful and insightful commentary heading into the 2024 elections. McDaniel became Chair of the RNC in 2017 after Donald Trump's election. Prior to that, she was the Michigan GOP Chair, and Trump praised her for his win in that state in 2016 over Hillary Clinton. After she became Chair, she stopped using her maiden name because Donald Trump couldn't stand her uncle Mitt Romney. Ronna dutifully complied.

McDaniel's tenure at the RNC can only be described, even by fellow Republicans, as a complete failure. On her watch, the Republican Party lost the presidency, 8 Governorships, 4 Senate seats, and 20 seats in the House. But some scions of privilege always seem to have soft landings on golden parachutes handed to them by their elitist friends, and nowhere is elitism on full display more than the incestuous world of network television.

But Ronna has a title - former RNC Chair, and the networks love sexy titles. In theory, they convey authority, knowledge, expertise, insight. However, the reason these networks continue to hemorrhage viewers is because this methodology for choosing commentators often results in people who provide far less insight than an average podcaster or social media junkie, with much more baggage, fewer fans, and a bigger price tag.
