10. The level of navel-gazing our modern media manages is epic

I have never seen people think so highly of themselves, believe the world is so centered on themselves, and feel their importance is so outsized to their actual function in life (or zero function at all, if you only count people under 50).

It is truly an impressive bubble they've managed.

And they're not even actual journalists. They're just pundits and media personalities and glorified newsreaders. As if they're actually on the beat somewhere doing anything at all. These people have underpaid interns and producers managing the day-to-day. When did they get their last scoop, at a cocktail party in the Hamptons?

They have spent an entire week on this.

The older I get, the more I realize adults don't often act like it as much as one would hope. The more "media personalities" talk, the more I realize they all think they're still in high school. Gossipy, mean girls and boys who are insecure and compensate with an air of superiority that is almost entirely unearned in the vast majority of them.

What are they experts in, exactly? Hair and make up? On cable news, I can name maybe three people - maybe - who I'm like, "Yes, I can see this person has thought deeply and actually read books. I will listen and think about what they have to say." Maybe three.

And I might be being generous here.

And let's just note that Keith Olbermann, raging misogynist, is still be bandied around. No one wants to work with the guy, and every time I turn around, he's taking shots at a woman somewhere. But yeah, let's not read into that and keep him going.

Case in point right there.
