They’re willing to risk fatal accents every so often with reduced maintenance because it helps their bottom line.

Let’s say you have a fatal planet crash every 5 years, and pay out $20 million because of it. However, maintenance over those 5 years would cost an extra $100 million. That’s a no brainer for sociopathic executives.
