16. I'm confused about how the word "independent" applies here...

...I know that "independent journalists" are basically free-lance and not contracted to corporate news organizations, but how is this corporate news organization now referring to itself and other corporate media organizations as "major independent news organizations"?

Edit to add: And believe me, that's the least of my concerns with all of this.
