7. I lived in St Joe, MO and Lincoln, NE

for 12 years, from 1988-2000. We were in the basement many times. It is nerve wracking to hear the sirens blaring.
I lived in California from 1965-1988 and was a student at UCLA in 1971 when the Sylmar 6.6 quake hit. My roommate and I thought it was the end of the world. The shaking seemed to go on forever.
But it wasn't until we moved to NC that we experienced a tornado going right over us one Saturday afternoon in Raleigh in April 2011. It really does sound like a freight train.
