Our department is split over multiple buildings. Our building (about 50 people) holds a potluck-type party the day before the holiday break starts. We start it around noon and go until around 2:30. Traditionally, we've always been released a bit early that day. We'll see if the tradition continues

We also have a more formal party catered at some local location where the employees, recent retirees, significant others, customers, other department heads are invited.
