(32,640 posts)Insurance companies negotiate, not our government, for the vast majority of people. Apples, oranges.
The US government does negotiate prices for Medicaid and VA drugs, but that is not the vast majority of people.
The election had consequences - Members of the 116th Congress have introduced bills to change the law and allow government drug price negotiation. So, yes, Democrats in Congress have the "guts" even if you don't know what is actually going on in terms of what they are negotiating. The GOP led Senate is refusing to let it go further.

You're welcome.
Also, Canada started their health care system decades ago, in the 60's. They didn't start in 2020. It's easier to keep costs down than it is to cut them.
Health care and health care policy - which includes government regulation of drug pricing - is complicated, and there is no silver bullet or easy, affordable fast way of making massive changes in the funding structure without upsetting health care delivery. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something or running for office.
