(17,487 posts)If internet posters are really and truly that concerned about this situation, or if they are wondering if this is a scam, perhaps a private message to the OP would be in order, asking for his phone number, and maybe even asking to personally to speak to his mother in order to better assess this situation.
At that point, the person who has decided to get involved here could make a better assessment, offer suggestions, and follow up vocally with the OP and his mom every day or so, before taking the step of getting them involved in the social or legal system.
All of this should be done in a more thoughtful and quiet manner, UNTIL the people impotently chewing on this online are willing to get their own skin involved and either:
a) Call social services without stating that they have done so on a public message board, or
b) Be willing to file a police report and perhaps help authorities with providing evidence to a potential scam.
Instead, what we have here, is people riding this guy's ass six ways to Sunday, on a public message board. While that criticism may be warranted, it also may not be warranted.
If people want to play internet super hero, there's ways of doing that quietly, somberly, and with the respect that this matter deserves.
