My first dog was a Malamute mix. The front yard of our half acre was fenced with 4' chain link. She would go to the corner of the yard where the two directions of fencing met and climb the fencing to get out of the yard. Then walk over to the gate at the driveway and sit there until we went and let her back in. She never ran away, so I guess she just liked to know she had the option to leave if she wanted to, lol.
