My friend loves ginkos and I collected a bunch of dried golden leaves that had fallen at a nearby arboretum. When I got home I wrote a sweet email message to her and then tried to attach the leaves. I popped open the CD drive on my laptop and arranged the leaves nicely in a circular pattern and carefully pushed the tray back in. I was thinking she could print the circular arrangement on a color printer and get it framed and how she would think about how nice and smart I was to send them to her. Then I clicked on the paper clip icon to attach the leaves and the CD drive started whirring. After a few seconds I saw some dust blowing out from the drive and thought "this can't be good, it will mess up the nice arrangement" so I popped open the drive, rearranged the leaves, taped them down, and pushed the tray back in. More whirring but this time it was a more strained sound that got louder as the seconds ticked by. The LED on the tray door started blinking and I detected the odor of smoldering vegetation so I popped open the drive and saw that my beautiful leaves were a ground up mess of sparks and smoke that might damage the drive. So I grabbed the glass of ice tea that I had just brought in from the kitchen and doused the remains. Well, "solve one problem and create another one" I thought to myself. Thankfully, I was able to remove the CD drive from the computer so I ran it through the dishwasher with just a dash of soap and it looks as good as new now. In the end I decided to just arrange the rest of the ginko leaves in a nice pattern outside in the grass and took a picture of them with my cellphone and sent them to my friend that way. Sometimes I think ladies don't appreciate the mental energy that guys spend on proper courtship.
