TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Jeb Bush and Florida's 160 state legislators may soon lose one of their key perks: free health insurance.
Buried in the back of the $57.6 billion version of the state budget crafted by House Republicans is an extensive overhaul of the state's health insurance program that would finally require elected officials to pay for their coverage.
The architect of the provision says that legislators should be forced to pay something for health insurance.
''We certainly shouldn't be better than anyone else,'' said Rep. Fred Brummer, an Apopka Republican.
