A Honduran-born lawyer embroiled in a federal court confirmation battle in the U.S. Senate may be the focal point of debate in the Oregon House as early as today.
The Oregon House Special Committee on the Budget endorsed a memorial resolution Friday afternoon urging a vote on the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Washington, D.C.
House Republicans say House Memorial 11 should be passed in hopes of encouraging the U.S. Senate to act.
However, Democrats are expected to oppose the resolution and to argue that the House should be focusing on the state budget crisis.
The resolution is up for passage in the House today, although the vote could be delayed. (snip/...)
