Shirley in Dubuque: "Candidates like this only come around once in a generation"

"I’m 70 now and Barack is the first man -- or woman for that matter -- who has not only struck a chord in my heart, but in my soul. It was just like lightning struck me when I saw him for the first time up at Loras college. He's new and fresh -- and he's got vim and vitality, which is what we need."
Shirley has been on board with Barack Obama since way back in April -- and since then she's been making calls day after day to her fellow Iowans -- doing just about everything she can to play her part in building the greatest grassroots campaign in history.
She was there in the front row at the Harkin Steak Fry ("I know all the chants and cheers -- we're really kind of a raucous group,"), over the months she's been there organizing house parties in Dubuque to talk to new people about Senator Obama, and she's made loads of young friends down at the Dubuque headquarters where she volunteers three times a week.
And now, today, she's seeing it all come together.
"It's really going to happen," she says. "You can just feel it around here. He's really going do it."
