1. Yes, it's a bizarre twist. |
|
Edwards clearly has the most liberal message, and is the only one speaking specifically and strongly for the poor and working classes.

Edwards has not been able to communicate with his natural constituency, apparently.

2. People rely on racial stereotypes, both pro and con |
|
Progressives think: Obama is black, so me must be a leftist.
Moderates think: Edwards is a southern white guy, so he must be a moderate.
Positive stereotyping is as common as negative.

18. Edwards is a moderate |
|
His voting record as a senator was very moderate/conservative. Perhaps people are looking at more than his recent revival as a populist, and *gasp* looking at his record.

8. Krugman said Obama repeated social security fear-mongerin right-win talking points |
|
But my point is that Obama won despite these allegations.

6. Odd result only if you don't note win was due to age 17 to 29 who think they are "left" but are |
|
more into "it's my generations turn".
Older activists no doubt thought they were not "very liberal" - just "liberal" - and they are the ones voting for Hill and Edwards.
I read it as an age split. The first contest that will not be determined by the college kids will be 2/5.

9. I bet you're right. His opposite stance of Bush on Iraq probably equates to "very liberal" to them. |

10. And he talked about "more affordable health care" |
|
His position on this key issue is by far the weakest in the pack.
What a disappointment.

15. People seem to project what they are on their candidate. |
|
Conservatives see that Edwards is a white male and think he must be conservative even thought he is liberal. They see an African-American male, and they think that he must be liberal even though he is more conservative than the white males, Edwards and Kucinich. Very strange.

DU'ers and progressive bloggers in general are better informed that regular voters.

22. I don't think that's true |
|
I've found that people here and on the blogs are far less informed. The problem is that they get into this echo chamber where they repeat false information and become deluded. There was a poll a while back that showed this.

With one of the more liberal voting records in the senate.
