Does the Edwards/Obama Bloc need to coalesce around one candidate? |
Obama is doing really well right now but I fear that the massive and well funded Clinton campaign may be able to pull it out on Super Tuesady. Frankly, I support Obama about as much as I do Edwards and would support either if I thought it would be needed to avoid a Hillary nomination. My question: Do you think it is necessary to back one or the other for this reason?
PS: This is nothing against Hillary. I think she is a fine person and decent Senator, I just don't think she can win the generals and my political beliefs are closer to other candidates.

3. It isn't an emotional decision for me. It is too important for that but |
that was pretty damn funny.

5. We just need to hope for the end of her campaign asap. If she's still standing |
and depending on the polls closer to Feb 5th, then that may be a decision that needs to be made. I'm not ready to make it at this point. Both men bring much needed dialogue to the table.

7. I am just getting close to it and I am torn but for the sake of 2-5 Justices |
and the soul of the country, it may be necessary.

8. Joe Trippi evidently told a reporter today that Edwards realizes |
he has to "get out of the way of the Obama bullet".. IOW, there's no way to really stop it right now. And needs to "hang around and hope not to get sucked down the drain with HRC" and be left standing to go toe to toe with Obama, and hope he slips up. Some of that paraphrased. Makes sense.

9. Obama should have thought about this before running for president |
It is Obama, not Edwards, who is splitting the anti-Clinton vote. He knew exactly what effect his candidacy would have.

10. LMAO. He's not "splitting the anti-Clinton vote," he's beating Clinton handily himself. |
You're right that he knew exactly what effect his candidacy would have, though--an Obama presidency.

13. Many Obama supporters have been saying Edwards should quit |
Because he is splitting an alleged anti-Clinton vote. If anyone is splitting that vote it is Obama, who parachuted into the race at the last minute. Edwards has no obligation to quit the race to clear the way for Obama.

15. I think the OP is talking about those of us (me included) who like both |
candidates and would be happy to see either elected. Those of us for whom HRC is not an option. There is no doubt Obama is doing well. But if you don't want the other % of Dem votes then that's fine. I'm not sure what we did to you that you want to jump in here and insult us. We weren't attacking "your" candidate or you.

18. Leaning Edwards here, but yes, if they combo up |
and take out Hillary, they would have done the Democratic Party proud and they deserve every dem vote in the general. For now, they are on their own for the primary, but they both make me very proud to be a dem right now.

20. I see what you're saying. |
Let me wait until tomorrow to answer to see how New Hampshire goes. My gut feeling is that Hillary will still be in third place, but it is actually anybody's guess. If it becomes necessary to coalesce, I'm willing to do it.
