Madison - State election officials are expected to authorize recall elections against three more Republican senators Tuesday, but have no plans to consider recall petitions against three Democrats at the same meeting.
Republicans are decrying as political the decision on which petitions to take up. Officials with the Government Accountability Board deny that, saying they haven't had time to review detailed challenges by Democrats to the petitions filed against them.
At the meeting, the board is expected to approve recall elections for Republican Sens. Rob Cowles of Allouez, Alberta Darling of River Hills and Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls.
Last week, the board approved recall elections for Republican Sens. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac, Dan Kapanke of La Crosse and Luther Olsen of Ripon. At that time, the board rejected challenges by the Republicans that said the elections should not go forward because of the way the recall paperwork was filed.
