45. and later at that site -- (also more pics)
"some people (no way to know who) started throwing things at the police."

-- after that silly bit of provocation by a few silly people
ended and the crowd in that location had thinned out, someone
tossed something from a ways back in crowd, and a person with
a loudspeaker at the front of the crowd turned around and
suggested that if s/he wanted to throw things, s/he come right
up to the front and do it. It stopped.

The incident in front of the Conference Centre / Château Laurier
had nothing to do with the large protests organized by the
coalition of peace groups (including major trade unions and
other representative organizations).

These are my favourite pics from the indymedia site linked to
by iceburg:

http://ottawa.indymedia.ca/en/2004/11/174.shtml

-- this one from the march that followed the noon rally:

People you know were there. ;) The crowd of marchers extends way
behind the camera, and farther in the distance than can be seen,
and off in both directions in this one (and no, I don't know what
the guy with the Free Beer sign was up to):

-- and the candlight vigil on Parliament Hill at 5 pm:

Who knows ... if the few obnoxious self-promoting individuals at
the Conference Centre event had stayed home, the media might
just have had to show some pictures like that. Doubtful, maybe,
but it's hard to see what the individuals in question accomplished.
