You act as if the only thing these groups care about is abortion.

And in case you haven't noticed, the groups you refer to simply aren't enough to make the Democratic Party the majority party. That being the case, SOMETHING has to be done to attract more people to the party. As a purely mathematical proposition, I don't see how moving even further to the left is going to help matters.
