Fort Worth police are responding to a shooting Thursday afternoon at Naval Air Station Fort Worth, officials said. Three servicemen were injured in the shooting, said Don Ray, a base spokesman.

The incident occurred on base about 1 p.m. and involved three members of the military, said Capt. Clay Sanford, an Air Force spokesman. All three were taken to local hospitals and their conditions were unknown, Sanford said.

However, a MedStar dispatcher said one person was taken to the hospital in serious condition and two more were expected to be taken to hospitals. Sanford did not release details about how the shooting occurred. It also was unclear whether the gunman was among the wounded. The gunman was in custody, he said.

Military officials closed exits to the base -- formerly known as Carswell Air Force Base -- after the shooting, but it was reopened shortly after.
