Too many of our fellow Americans seem to have a total disconnect about this. For the last 2 election cycles, the average American has voted AGAINST their own self interest. I do not laud it over those who are suffering, I use it as a teachable moment. I have noticed lately that people are more willing to listen. Katrina has made this nation painfully aware of the GOP shortcomings. And the GOP are sadly mistaken if they think they can wish it off the front page and out of people's minds. I think the GOP knows this and is trying to use their remaining time to bully through the bills they want. I am expecting a GOP bloodbath in 06 and 08. Will this help these people now---no. But we as DEMs must do all we can to help these victims.
