15. There comes a point where someone is bad for the community.
It takes a lot to get there for me, but child molesters definitely qualify for that distinction. Any redeeming value they may provide as human beings is negated by the damage and destruction they do to those around them.

I was recently told that a man my husband grew up with repeatedly molested his thirteen year old step-daughter. He confessed, served ten days in jail, and is now paying the mother off financially.

His excuse was that he was "depressed." I suggest that next time he is "depressed" he commit suicide as opposed to molesting innocent children. If he had opted for that approach instead of molesting his thirteen year old daughter, I believe the entire planet would have been better off.

Now, with that said, if he had opted to get mental "help" with his depression instead of molesting and/or suicide, I would have supported that decision, too. However, his personal excuse of HIS depression did not now and never will excuse what he did to his step-daughter, nor will he ever be considered "safe" to be around other children again. Unfortunately, history teaches that he will undoubtedly indulge himself again when other people stop paying attention.

We would all be better off if he were dead.

I know my practicality is cruel, and you probably disagree with me. You are entitled to do so. Fortunately for this man, I am not in a position of lawful authority to render the verdict I believe he warrants. I will not, however, cry at his funeral. He is despicable, and while his soul may be redeemed by a loving God, his value to the planet is in my opinion irretrievable.
