Bush is on his way to West Virginia. Press has been sent inside to the Briefing Room. Package is outside Northwest Gate. Daryn Kagan notes a "lack of urgency." She thinks she's spotted a large white truck, and a "robot." And she reports the robot is on the move. Dana Bash now on the scene outside the Executive Office Building. She sees the truck also, and reports a "sense of calm." Package was thrown over the WH fence.

Man who threw package now in custody, according to Secret Service. Man has thrown non-dangerous items before.

ALL-CLEAR NOW GIVEN.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police sealed off the front gates of the White House on Wednesday to check on what they said was a suspicious package left outside.

Reporters and camera crews were ordered inside the White House press area, as heavily armed guards took up position on the front lawn. The Secret Service had no immediate comment....
