Bush, Taft ratings at record lows in new poll

CINCINNATI - Approval ratings for President Bush and Gov. Bob Taft reached record lows last month in a statewide poll released on Friday.

Only 35 percent of Ohioans approved of the president's overall performance in the latest Ohio Poll, the lowest numbers for any president since the poll began in 1981, and Taft's approval rating of 26 percent was also the lowest for a governor.

Bush's approval ratings in the state that helped deliver the 2004 election to him were similarly low on questions about Iraq, foreign policy and the economy.

"Whether you're talking about overall job approval, foreign policy, his handling of Iraq or his handling of the economy, the ratings are all at the lowest point in his presidency," said Eric Rademacher, associate director of the Ohio Poll.
