The market’s weakness also relected a sharper-than-expected fall in German business confidence, measured by Ifo, the economic institute. This echoed Monday’s fall in investor sentiment from the ZEW group. In closing trade in London, the FTSE Eurofirst 300 was down 0.3 per cent to 1,598.69, Frankfurt’s Xetra Dax shed 0.2 per cent to 7,949.63, the CAC 40 in Paris lost 0.1 per cent to 6,023.25 and London’s FTSE 100 fell 0.4 per cent to 6,567.4.
